Parents' Guide To Kids' Homework
Studies reveal that when parents are involved in their children's education, the kids will do well in school. Homework strengthens the knowledge that they gain in school and when parents take part in their children's school activities, it gives children the impression that education is important.
It is a must, therefore, to adopt these habits when it comes to supporting your kids in their schooling needs:
*Experts suggest that there should be is a quiet place at home for doing homework. It should be free from distractions like television or loud music. Importantly, the place should also be well lit. Having this type of atmosphere helps your child to focus on his or her homework and therefore, learn more from it.
*All supplies that the child will need should be readily accessible. Homework activities will be hampered if you do not have all the necessary needs of the child for school, and will lose interest on his or her schoolwork.
*Make a regular homework routine or schedule. An appropriate time to be set for homework would be right about his return from school because the lessons are still fresh in mind. Do not let your children work their homework just before going to bed because by then they will be too tired and sleepy to even read it. For bigger assignments, you set a time on weekends when you can sit down with your child and do the work.
*Help your child develop a positive attitude towards homework. Inform her or him that school is important and you can show this every time you sit down with them doing the homework. If children see how important homework is, they will have the extra initiative to do this on their own.
*Develop an incentive system for doing homework. It does not have to be money, though. It could be that they can watch their favorite shows, surf the internet or play video games after doing their homework. This will encourage your child to prioritize homework habitually and on a regular basis.
*Help your child by giving guidance rather than answers. If you give the answers readily to your child, they will not learn. Hence, on their next homework, they will surely ask for the answers again. This will make them dependent on you such that when they encounter difficult problems, they will think that someone will work on it for them. Train your kids to be independent by letting them sweat it out on their homework. All you need to do is guide them on what to do and allow them to do the rest.
*Teach your child to identify easy and hard homework. This will help them prioritize school assignments that are difficult over the easier ones. This way they can give their full attention on the difficult subjects and can still do well on the others.
*Encourage and provide support to your children if you see that they are frustrated. If they are having trouble with the homework, guide them on how to deal with it and encourage them. It will enhance their self esteem if they are motivated.
*Monitor the progress of your child in school. Keep in touch with their teachers and ask them of your child's performance in school. You can also ask progress of their homework to see if they are doing well.
For parents, it is very important to keep these tips in mind. After all, their performance reflects the treatment that their parents give to education and all elements that naturally come with it.
