Eight Not So Secrets To Getting Good Grades
People have different ways of learning in school. There are students who like to take down notes and there are others who are good in doing their homework. There are those, however, who do not take down notes or just copy others' work and still get better grades than you do. But there is more to taking down notes or accomplishing the homework. Needless to say, getting good grades would require a lot of hard work and dedication. Here are some simple steps that will help you achieve better grades:
1. Learn to know the methods of teaching that your teachers are applying during class. If your teacher usually writes on the blackboard, you may have to scribble down notes. If your teacher is lecturing, you will have to listen, or better yet, record the lectures and play it back when you are already at home. This way, you won't miss anything on the lessons discussed that day.
2. Go to class everyday. If you are not around during a lecture, you will surely miss a lot. Catching up on missed lessons is not easy and it will give you a lot of pressure to become equal especially if there is a major exam coming up.
3. Stay focused during classes. It is very challenging to be in complete focus in a class as there are many distractions that may happen, which includes, among others, seatmates asking you questions while the lecture is ongoing. Distractions will cause you to miss some of the details during the lecture which could be important. Raise questions during class to help you clear up some points in the discussion that you don't understand. These simple questions might actually help you during exams.
4. Take down good and legible notes. You can use colored pens for important items in your notes. It is more convenient for you to locate and learn the important items when you find them easily.
5. As much as possible, work on your homework right away after school. Time is gold, as the old adage says. Procrastination will only lead to cramming in doing your homework and result in very poor quality of work. Take note that larger assignments may require time tables to keep you on track.
6. Homework is of utmost importance. In school, a portion of your grade is allocated to homework, which is why homework is inevitably a requirement in most, if not all, classes. Therefore, it is important that you set up schedules in doing your assignment. Doing homework is like taking a test with open notes where you get points easily. It is also important to note that while you are doing your homework, you are already studying your lessons.
7. Get organized. This means organizing your lockers, study table and even your bags. This will help you see if you have forgotten to bring important items to your class. An organized study area allows you to focus well in studying your lessons as you will not be distracted by any clutter in your table. You can also find easily the items that you will need during studying or during class.
8. Study every night. Refreshing your mind with the day's lesson on a daily basis helps you retain discussions better. Who knows, your teacher might give you a surprise exam on the following day. It is important to remember that it is how good you study that counts most. If it helps you, you might want to consider studying with your friends or classmates. You can share ideas and help each other out on some difficult items. It also makes studying less boring as you have somebody to discuss with.
It's cool being in school, but undeniably, it is cooler getting good grades!
